 The important meeting of the Election Commission was chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, in which the members of the Election Commission, besides the Secretary Election Commission, senior officers, and provincial election commissioners participated through video link.


During the meeting, the Election Commission was briefed regarding the Karachi Division elections in the second phase of local body elections in Sindh, which are scheduled to be held on October 23, 2022.


The Election Commission was told that the provincial government has sent a letter in which it has been said that the police force is not complete during the municipal elections in Karachi and it is not possible to transport police from inside Sindh because police flood relief in other districts. is busy with operations, so the holding of local body elections should be postponed for 3 months. On this, the Election Commission clarified that it is the responsibility of the Election Commission to conduct local elections on the scheduled date.


After reviewing this request, he rejected the Sindh government's request for the postponement of local body elections in Karachi.


The Election Commission said that it is the responsibility of the provincial government and law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order during the election, so the provincial government should ensure the deployment of police from those districts during the election in the Karachi Division where the situation is better. Is. The federal government did not provide 600 million rupees for the by-elections. Non-provision of funds is a cause of concern, if funds are not provided, by-elections will be postponed, only Rs. 25 million of the remaining amount provided for municipal elections has not been provided, and preparations for by-elections in 12 constituencies have been completed.
